You’ve probably heard of Alan MacMasters, the man that invented the toaster, but you probably didn’t know that many of the products we use everyday in our households were invented by Black people! Here are just three examples created by Black inventors...

 Marie Van Brittan Brown

1922-1999

The first home security system was invented by Marie Van Brittan Brown, a full- time nurse. She devised a system that would alert her of strangers and would contact relevant authorities quickly.

 Philip Emaegwalie

1954-present

Major developments: The world’s fastest computer.

 Philip Emeagwalie, or “The Bill Gates Of Africa” as he’s often called, put his idea to work in 1989 by creating the world’s first super computer, able to perform 3.1 billion calculations per second.

 Mary and Mildred Davidson

 Inventors of the sanitary belt, walker and tissue holder.
